Both skill and inspiration
The VI International Mstislav Rostropovich Music Festival has ended in Moscow.

<...>
A special festival project was organized for the 100th anniversary of the birth of G. V. Sviridov. On March 31, in the Great Hall of the Conservatory, a monographic program composed of works by the Russian composer was presented by the Ukrainian tenor Dmitry Popov, the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia named after E.F. Svetlanov and the State Choir of the Moscow Regional Philharmonic.

Alexander Vedernikov, a fine connoisseur and connoisseur of the music of Georgy Sviridov, conducted.

Alexander Vedernikov:
"Georgy Vasilyevich Sviridov occupies an inherent, deeply individual place in the history of music. In a sense, he adhered to other aspects of life in contrast to the prevailing trends of that time. It seems to me that one of the most important things that a great composer should have is a bright and memorable melodism, as well as a recognizable style. All these qualities are characteristic of Sviridov's work."

The evening program featured vocal and symphonic works by G. Sviridov from different years: "Spring Cantata", "Poem in Memory of Sergei Yesenin", Five choirs based on poems by Russian poets, as well as a Small triptych for a symphony orchestra.

I would especially like to mention the highly professional work of the State Choir of the Moscow Regional Philharmonic, which was conducted by the chief choirmaster of the Mariinsky Theater Andrey Petrenko (curator of the project).

In the performance of Sviridov's music, attention to the syllable and carefully preserved intonation were extremely sensitive. The chorus sounded crystal clear and transparent.

Alexander Vedernikov took part in the Mstislav Rostropovich Festival for the first time. Meanwhile, the conductor has the deepest respect for this grandiose personality.

Alexander Vedernikov:
"I was lucky in my life to cooperate and communicate with Mstislav Leopoldovich. Rostropovich's significance lies not only in the fact that he was an excellent cellist and conductor. He was a major intellectual figure who set in motion certain springs of the musical world.

The importance of his public and charitable activities cannot be overestimated. He was the inspiration for many works that were written by different composers specifically for him. It seems to me that it is quite significant that after the death of Rostropovich there is such a wonderful festival in the Russian capital. The spirit and name of the great musician contribute to the fact that this celebration of music will continue for many years to come."
