"He has done an incredible amount for the Danish classical music scene. The love he had for the music, and the courage he showed in trying things out, we could not have been without," says Jakob Weber, who is a percussionist and played under Alexander Vedernikov in the Odense Symphony Orchestra.
A Class Above MostThe Russian conductor came to Denmark in 2009 to conduct the Odense Symphony Orchestra after 10 years at the Bolshoi Theatre. It was quite a scoop, according to Jakob Weber.
"It was not normal for a Danish orchestra to be able to attract a name like that as chief conductor. He is the best the symphony orchestra has ever had," says Jakob Weber.
The Odense Symphony Orchestra will hardly get a better conductor again, if you ask the percussionist.
"In the almost ten years he was with us, he got us to play together and to listen to each other so that it became completely magical," says Jakob Weber.
