The world has lost a great musician. Unfortunately, this has only become apparent to everyone now. Pain and sorrow fill the soul. Eternal memory.
Source. On October 4, we met in St. Petersburg, he conducted at the Mikhailovsky Theater, and we were going to discuss plans when he would arrive in Yekaterinburg. On the 13th, he called me from Moscow and said: "You know, I think I've got this fashion virus." He said it cheerfully enough, I couldn't have imagined that he would be gone in two weeks. But that's what happened… It still doesn't fit, I still feel him next to me, I see him. San Sanich and I have been friends for more than thirty years, we were very close in spirit, in our views on music and on life. He was a unique man!
What attracted him was that he never copied anyone. Now this is a real problem, especially in the conducting environment — when a person takes a classical symphony, chooses a good version on the Internet, listens to it ten times, and then puts on this "jacket" from someone else's shoulder - goes out and reproduces everything in public. And Vedernikov was always himself.
He also loved nature and was very close to it. We were rafting on a river in the Vologda region – with him, Lena, his wife, and Arkhip the dog – three of us in a boat, counting the dog. I love the forest, the river. It cleanses me spiritually, distracts me from everyday problems and all other superficial things. I think he had the same thing. He built a house in Finland, and we spent a lot of time there every year, going mushroom picking and fishing. If you go out, you'll sit: the breeze, the sun, it's nice… The float started playing — a pleasure. These memories are very warm to me now. And I still can't believe he's gone.
I don't want to forget him, and I don't want him to be forgotten.…
