The Deutsche Oper Berlin mourns a great musician.Born in Moscow, Vedernikov was considered one of the outstanding Russian musicians of his generation and achieved international success primarily through his opera conducting. From 2001 to 2009, he served as Music Director and Principal Conductor at the Bolshoi Theatre; in the following years, Denmark became the base for his international guest appearances: Vedernikov initially led the Odense Symphony Orchestra as chief conductor, and from 2018, the orchestra of the Copenhagen Opera. Since 2015, guest conducting engagements repeatedly brought him to the Deutsche Oper Berlin as well, where he celebrated his debut in May 2015 with Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin" – a success that Vedernikov was able to repeat in the last series of performances of this opera in March 2019. Furthermore, Alexander Vedernikov conducted performances of Puccini's "Turandot" at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, as well as Meyerbeer's "Les Huguenots" in March 2020 – the final performance before the first corona-related closure period.
